Making Learning Stick

Much of what we do in classrooms has very little impact on long-term learning; in fact, much of what we do has the opposite effect. This is an effective research-based course based on the outcomes of many cognitive scientific studies that Huw Duggan, the presenter, has collected over many years of teaching and leading in schools. This course will give teachers and school leaders simple and practical ways to demonstrate how staff can ‘tweak’ teaching and learning for greater impact and knowledge retention.

Course objectives:

  • Understanding how children many of our entrenched teaching ideas are wrong.

  • Understanding key learning theories like;’ cognitive load theory and the benefits of forgetting, spaced learning, retrieval practice and the testing effect.

  • Practical strategies to develop teachers’ creative pedagogy and accelerate learner progression.

  • This programme is available as a face-to-face course, online, and as an in-service for schools.
